Hours after the death of former Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater, Republican leaders came to the floor of Congress to serve praise upon the patron saint of conservatism. Most of the Republican leaders apparently were unaware that just months before Senator Goldwater's passing, he lamented "What we used to call the 'Lunatic Fringe' is now in charge of the Republican Party."
This 'Lunatic Fringe', was manifested from Bill Clinton's destruction of the Republican southern strategy to capture the presidency and ruin the political dream trifecta of controlling the House, Senate, and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Resulting in a collapse of political civility and a personal hatred for Bill Clinton that can only be defined as pathological.
Lost in this devolved political climate reside the great political wasteland of voters who might believe in a smaller government - but still believe in government.
Who are these lost voters?
They are the people who are frustrated with some of the ridiculous excesses of government but are repulsed by the far right's propensity to tag the moniker of 'liberal' on them with ease and efficiency Senator Joe Mcarthy labeled his enemies as 'communists'.
They think the state of our education system is reprehensible, but would rather build up the public school system than opt for a veiled attempt to publicly fund religious schools via vouchers
Many of these voters believe a responsible person should be able to own a gun and see no threat to democracy by a three-day waiting period to purchase a gun.
They are the people who don't associate themselves the largesse of the ideas of the far left, but chasten at the inference that anyone not agreeing with the far right agenda is stupid and unpatriotic.
The disenfranchised are smug to a faction that would stalk a president of the United States.
This wasted electorate has many Christians who know this is a country of many religions, not just Christianity. They are smart enough to know the media is far from 'liberal', and they laugh at the hypocrisy of the characters Gingrich, Barr, Dornan, and Burton.
They are not against a prudent tax cut, but see the folly of reducing taxes on surpluses yet realized.
They are chagrined you can call the President of the Unites States a murderer, thief, rapist, felon, and a herpetic homosexual - with no evidence.. You can call the First Lady a jew hater, murderer, adultress on the pages of the so-called prestigous newspapers.
They are not dittoheads, whose first inclination is to call their political opponents liars.
The far right has the political spectrum all wrong, It is not black and white. It is not polarized. It is made up of people who feel they should be able express their opinions without having questioned their intelligence and patriotism.
These are people, many of who are politically right of center, who are not zealots, and out of dignity, refuse to associate themselves with the haters of the far right.
