Kathryn Waters is a Professor of Art and the Chair of the Department of Art, Music and Theater at the University of Southern Indiana, where she has taught since 1981. She teaches courses in drawing and painting, and conducts the Senior Art Seminar. Ms. Waters holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Ohio University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She was awarded the 1999 Clowes Fellowship in Painting at the Vermont Studio Center, a 1996 Arts Midwest National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship in Painting, and two Indiana Arts Commission Master Fellowships. She was chosen for artist residencies at Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, New York and the Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, Illinois. Her drawings and paintings have been exhibited widely at the national and regional level, and appear in many corporate, university, museum, and private collections. In January 2000 she participated in the exhibition, "Matter, Mind, Spirit: 12 Contemporary Indiana Women Artists" at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C. She describes her work as "narrative realism" and, in it, strives to capture ordinary moments and imbue them with significance. Ms. Waters lives in Evansville, Indiana, with husband, poet Matthew Graham. |
