CHICKIE FRIEBERG MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND Following the death in November, 2000 of ACE Charter member Chickie Frieberg, the Ad Club Board of Directors announced creation of a scholarship in her honor. Chickie was a member of the Ad Club since its inception in 1949 and served as Editor of the ACE Reporter monthly newsletter during all those years. In 1970, the Ad Club recognized Chickie's accomplishments by presenting her with the ACE Silver Medal Award, an honor that is bestowed upon those who have shown creativity, dedication and leadership within the advertising community. Chickie was the Agency Manager for Racener Advertising, working along side another ACE Charter Member, Melba Jean Racener. Chickie and Melba Jean were pioneers of sorts during a time when women were generally not prevalent in the advertising industry. Chickie was also a huge supporter of tennis in Evansville, both as a player and a booster. She belonged to the Evansville Tennis Club, Evansville Tennis Officials Association and the Evansville Area Tennis Patrons Foundation. ACE member and 2000 Silver Medal Award winner Larry Aiken provided seed money for the Chickie Frieberg Memorial Scholarship Fund. ACE matched his donation and additional funds were raised through a one-time direct mail solicitation of contributions from members of the local advertising community and other businesses and organizations Chickie supported. A sustaining growth fund was established for on-going contributions to the annual award, the criteria for which is based on Chickie's own legacy. The scholarship recipient will be a female student with a declared major in Journalism or Advertising who has displayed an active interest in those fields of endeavor. And in case of a tie, all other qualifications having been judged equal, the applicant who also happens to play tennis wins! To apply for the Chickie Frieberg Memorial Scholarship or to contribute to the Scholarship Fund, e-mail Judy Steenberg at adclub@evansville.net or call (812) 474-0997.
